Two new things about the photos this trip: (1) I am still using my Olympus C5050Z in the Olympus PT-015 housing, with a single Inon Z220S strobe. But this time one of the DM's gave me an Inon macro lens to try -- which I used with mixed success. Somehow the camera in macro/super-macro mode with this lens has focusing problems. I need to experiment more to figure out the best way to use this lens. Right now, my approach will be: if the target is not going away, I use just the camera in one of the macro modes to get sharp images; if the target is skittish, e.g. Christmas tree worms, then I use the macro and the extra distance helps me fill the frame without scaring them back into their holes. I fear that it was my use of the macro lens that led to relatively poor images of the pygmy seahorse and the nudibranches. (2) This time Kitty also had a camera - her new Canon S80 in the canon housing. This camera is great top-side -- Kitty got great photos from our India trip. But the underwater performance was not as good: many photos (the thumbs-titles below in red) were too soft due to focus problems. Maybe we will learn how to use it better... we'll find out in Summer on our Phuket trip. Below are selected, processed (Photoshop Elements) images from the trip.
