Kayaking in Hong Kong

The waters near HKUST:
We've been doing water sports for 15 years (Dragon boat races, scuba), but never considered owning a boat, till the summer of 2009 when our friends Pedro+Wen got a Kayak, and then convinced us to do the same. We bought a Hobie Oasis tandem kayak -- and have had a great amount of fun this summer and fall. We've been exploring all the Islands in the Port Shelter area, finding new and isolated beaches, sea arches, and generally paddling (or, since this is a hobie, pedalling) around. The boat is great, and we can average 3+mph at a strain level that could be sustained perhaps 6 hrs in a day.

I've mapped out most nearby target destinations on google maps . These really are fantastic waters to have some real fun excursions.

I will keep adding photos and notes of our Kayak experiences below. The first set below is from a short trip out to Kau Sai Chau Island.
