Eiger Trail Hike trip, Switzerland (click to hide/show report)
Hiking, Food and Stay:
This was a trip with seven days of hiking, starting from the town of Gstaad, and ending up with the famous Eiger trail from Wengen to Grindenwald. The trip was organised by Ryder Walker, and was a guided trip - which means that Ryder-Walker arange all the hotels, and we have two guides (the excellent David Nesis and Branford Walker) with us. They also transport all our gear by car, so each day we only carry a small backpack with extra layers and water - except for one day (the Lenk to Engstligenalp leg, since there is no road access to Engstligenalp). The hiking on several days was pretty strenuous, and there were some slightly hairy passages on a couple of days. But the scenery was awesome all along the way. Ryder-Walker is relatively upscale, so the hotels we stayed in were all very comfortable, and the food was uniformly very good.. very Swiss, of course.

It took me a while to put up the photos of this trip, and I probably have messed up which photo is from what day.. However, I did experiment with making a map view on Google Earth of the trip, with the hotels and the trails marked out -- the trails are approximate, since I didn't carry a GPS tracker on the trip. Nevertheless, it's pretty cool to see the 3D terrain map of the route. I also made an approximate route on Google maps, and the difference is amazing.

Gear: Sony Nex7 for most photos, except some with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
