Underwater images from Dumaguete, Philippines, Jan 2005
Living, Food and
Diving:
We did five days of diving at Dumaguete in mid-January 2005, staying at
Atlantis resort. The hotel is fairly comfortable,
and the diving is divided between a few local sites (~10 mins by speedboat), or
day-trip sites that are anywhere between 35mins (e.g. Apo Island) and 3 hours
(e.g. Balicasag, Bohol) away. It is easy to do three dives a day, though we
skipped the evening dives on a couple of days, for a total of 13 dives. Our
dives were done at Apo Island (Sanctuary, Cogon, Rock point east), Dumaguete
(Sanctuary, house reef), Apo Island (Chapel, Cogon and Coconut), Dumaguate (Bangka,
Masaplod, and Dauin sanctuary, Masaplod, Cars). Water temp was a balmy 27C,
except on the first day at Apo when it was a cool 25C. Dumaguate is a small
town, and we did most eating at the resort restaurant (pretty good),
Sea
Explorers down the beach (ok), and Lab-as in town (pretty good).
The photos below were all taken by my Olympus C5050Z in an Olympus PT-015
housing; I'm still trying to get use to my Inon Z220s strobe, and there are
examples of under-exposed or burnt photos, as well as many where the strobe was
pointed the wrong way. The photos are processed mostly on Photoshop Elements
(good for color cast) with some things using Irfanview.
