One big reason to go to the Sangalaki area in summer is the near-certain encounters with
these gentle, elegant giants, the manta rays (the one in this shot is
~2m). We only dived Sangalaki one day (two
dives). During the first dive, my camera was low on battery (doh!). And only a couple of mantas
had momentarily glided past. We swam between cleaning stations; no more mantas.
So we go up to the boat, and there were tens of them, on the surface, within 30m
of the boat. We swam maybe 40 mins
with them. Luckily, in her excitement, Kitty had jumped in without her camera, so I took
a bunch of photos with her camera.
